Director
Mr. Danny R. Parsons was born December 19, 1946, in Wilkes County, North Carolina. When he was five years old, his family moved to Winston-Salem. After graduating from East High School in 1965, Mr. Parsons attended High Point College and received a B.A. degree in History and Political Science in 1969. Upon graduating from college, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
After serving in the military for four years, Dan and his family moved back to Winston-Salem where he worked as a supervisor at McLean Trucking Company for seven years. He then went to work for J.G. Messick and Sons, serving as a Warehouse Manager for the Food Fair Stores for sixteen years. During this time he had a number of men from the Rescue Mission work under his supervision in the warehouse. Before assuming a position at the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, he worked for two and a half years as a store manager for Food Lion.

In May of 1999, Mr. Parsons came to work at the Rescue Mission as Administrative Assistant to Rev. Neal Wilcox. In 2000, he assumed the position of Assistant Executive Director. During this time, he worked to obtain certification for the Rescue Mission from the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions. The Mission was awarded this certification in May of 2000. In September 2000, Rev. Wilcox retired, and Mr. Parsons was chosen as Executive Director.
Mr. Parsons is an active member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church where he has taught Sunday School for twenty-five years and served as deacon, deacon chairman, choir member and Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of the Gideons International for many years and served on the Board of the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission before coming to work for the Mission.
Mr. Parsons is married to the former Anne Johnson. He and his wife have three children: Melody, Daniel, and Heather.
